Aesop was found as a nestling at a demolition site in August 2025 in Lucas, Texas. In the couple of weeks between being found and being brought to Blackland Prairie Raptor Center, he learned that both food and interactions come from humans, instead of his Black Vulture parents. This was a permanent change in his brain that would make life as a wild vulture complicated and challenging. Aesop’s origin story is another reminder to call your nearest wildlife rehabilitator immediately if you ever find a young wild animal.
Aesop joined the Cascades Raptor Center team in May 2026 and thanks to the skilled trainers at Blackland Prairie, he came with a solid repertoire of trained behaviors and is quickly on his way to joining our free flight team!
