Neil was originally hatched to a falconry breeder in 2019 and acquired as a nestling by a permitted falconer in the Portland, Oregon, area. For a number of years, he worked professionally in abatement – a form of non-lethal pest control in which a trained bird of prey is employed to deter the presence of other birds. Neil would travel to locations like airports and vineyards and be flown at the site repeatedly, discouraging species like pigeons from gathering there.
In 2025, Neil’s falconer retired from working with birds and Neil joined the team at Cascades Raptor Center. He immediately became a favorite with visitors and staff alike for his striking plumage and outgoing personality. His advanced flying skills have also made him an invaluable member of our free flight team!
