Volunteers on our Education Team will have the opportunity to interact directly with the public by answering questions, ushering flight shows, facilitating “touch tables” with avian artifacts such as wings, feet and bones, interpreting training and enrichment sessions, presenting programs, and conversing with visitors.

  • Time Requirement:
    • Minimum one shift per week
    • Programming season (March 23rd-October 31st): Tuesday-Sunday from 10am – 1:30pm and 1:30pm to 5:00pm
    • Non-programming season (November 1st– March 22nd): Friday-Sunday from 10am – 1:00pm and 1:00pm to 4:00pm
  • Special Considerations:
    • Folks who join this team will be required to attend a pre-scheduled educational orientation before beginning.
    • The more you know, the more helpful you will be to guests. We will give some basic information during orientation, as well as resources and material for self-study to help you build your knowledge of the center, the residents, and native Oregon raptor species. Staff are always around to help answer questions you may not know the answers to.
    • The amount of time you invest, as well as your presentation skill level, will dictate the types of programming you may assist with. Evaluations will be offered to progress to the next tiers of programming.
    • Because this position is seasonal, not all shifts are offered at all times of the year.
    • Being polite, friendly and personable are essential parts of this position. Guest interactions are only made better by chatting with people who are passionate about the birds.
    • The center is open year-round, rain or shine. Having a raincoat and waterproof shoes keeps volunteers comfortable as they wander the center interacting with guests.
