Volunteers on the Wildlife Hospital Team will be involved in preparing whole food, animal diets for patients, cleaning patient aviaries and hospital crates, doing laundry, cleaning working spaces in hospital, and assisting with treatments/procedures in the hospital.

  • Time requirement:
    • Minimum of one 4-hour shift a week, and an initial commitment of 100 hours (at 4 hours per week, roughly 6 months). Shifts daily from 8:30am – 1:00pm and 3:00pm – 7:30pm.
  • Special considerations:
    • Volunteers must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, hike steep terrain, and lift heavy items like crates and full hoses.
    • We are working with predatory birds whose diets consist of whole small animals. As a hospital volunteer, your duties will include preparing diets, which means cutting up and/or skinning mice, quail, rabbit, rats, and fish.
    • Because we focus solely on raptors, our hospital sees fewer patients than other wildlife hospitals (under 1,000 per year). This means that on days when there is less work in the hospital, you may be asked to help in other areas.
  • Dress code: Volunteers must wear clothing appropriate for both representing the raptor center and working safely outdoors around animals. No leggings/yoga pants, short shorts, sleeveless shirts, or open-toed shoes.
