Makayla received her Bachelor of Science in biology from Oregon State University with minors in chemistry and Japanese language and culture. During her freshman year, she rescued an injured Barred Owl and brought it up to Cascades Raptor Center, where she fell in love with the center’s mission. She went on to intern at Chintimini Wildlife Center in Corvallis, Oregon, before graduating, and later joined Cascades Raptor Center’s staff in April 2022.

As our Rehabilitation Technician, Makayla works in our wildlife hospital helping provide top-notch care to the hundreds of injured, orphaned, and displaced raptors we receive every year. She also serves in the U.S. Army Reserve as an Animal Care Specialist (the military equivalent of a civilian veterinary technician).
