Atlas is a Northern Hawk Owl and was hatched in a conservation breeding program in Spokane, Washington, in June 2025. When she was just one month old, one of our animal care staff drove to pick her up and brought her back to her new home in Oregon.
Her first few months with us were spent behind the scenes learning basic job skills: stepping into a travel crate, meeting new people, and standing on a scale for weigh-ins. After a gradual introduction to visitors, she transitioned to living on our public side.
Atlas is one of our most vocal birds, so if you visit you will likely hear her before you see her! She is active and curious, and loves playing with leaves that fall into her aviary.
