Su probabilidad de recuperaci\u00f3n es baja y los hospitales de vida silvestre deben sacrificarlos de inmediato, ya que corren un riesgo extremadamente alto de propagar el virus a otras aves en el lugar.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/section><section class=\"vc_cta3-container\"><div class=\"vc_general vc_do_cta3 vc_cta3 vc_cta3-style-classic vc_cta3-shape-rounded vc_cta3-align-left vc_cta3-color-green vc_cta3-icon-size-md vc_custom_1773269760338\"><div class=\"vc_cta3_content-container\"><div class=\"vc_cta3-content\"><header class=\"vc_cta3-content-header\"><h2>What is Avian Influenza?<\/h2><\/header><p>Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) is a naturally occurring virus that\u00a0circulates in migratory\u00a0waterfowl every year.\u00a0Some\u00a0waterfowl may carry the virus and\u00a0not display symptoms, while others become symptomatic and succumb to the disease.\u00a0The designation of Highly\u00a0pathogenic\u00a0vs\u00a0Low\u00a0pathogenic\u00a0was created\u00a0by\u00a0the USDA\u00a0to signify how\u00a0virulent\u00a0(deadly)\u00a0the disease is in domestic poultry.<\/p>\n<p>Like human influenza, the virus\u00a0changes from year to year.\u00a0In recent\u00a0years\u00a0the virus\u00a0has been especially virulent\u00a0in\u00a0raptors.\u00a0Felines, mustelids (i.e.\u00a0ferrets), dairy cattle,\u00a0and humans\u00a0have\u00a0also been\u00a0affected.\u00a0Human cases are rare, but people working\u00a0in higher risk\u00a0occupations\u00a0are\u00a0advised to take\u00a0protective measures to prevent exposure.<\/p>\n<p>Avian flu is usually transmitted through direct or indirect contact with the droppings of an infected bird. It can also be carried in an infected bird\u2019s saliva or nasal mucus.\u00a0The virus is extremely\u00a0hardy\u00a0and can\u00a0spread from\u00a0touching surfaces or objects.
